Little bulbous plant from the Drakensberg Mts in South Africa. This is a good rock garden subject in that it likes good drainage in the winter. When growing, keep it watered reasonably and it will bloom its tail off with loads of small reddish flowers. Mulch if bitter cold in winter. This is one of smallest species in the genus and the word "statuesque" will likely never be used in conjunction with Rhodohypoxis. This was simply descriptive and not in the least pejorative. Those little bulbs can be so sensitive about their size.
A Darrell Probst collection of this classic Chinese evergreen groundcover which sends Kelly into defensive throes of passionate oration when ne'er do well gardeners question its place. Little candles of pink and white flowers held by the arched creeping candelabra stems which are then followed by glossy red baubles that would be fabulous as miniature ornaments. Let the Christmas reign of holly end and the new dawn of Reineckea begin.
Bulbs of this exquisitely choice red-flowered variant of this shorter species. Saturated red interior with a white and red exterior - dang! This normally flowers 5-6 years from seed and these are a good age to get established for maximum oomph when flowering. You will be forgiven for any horticultural braggadocio!
We invite you to try this rarely if ever seen New Zealander with us! A small to medium shrub of lax habit with glossy evergreen leaves slightly toothed at the ends that give it an overall softer look than many other Hebes. The true star that drew us to a small batch of seed is the impressive inflorescences of lavender flowers that emerge in Summer. Reports of hardiness vary widely but we are determined to see for ourselves and are banking on you, our bold and foolhardy customers to follow us once more into the breach. Best grown in a sunny well-drained spot, and wouldn't mind some extra warmth from some cozy rock neighbors.
A behemoth of an introduction from our friends at Celestial Dreams Gardens. Stoutly stocky with an implacable confidence that only comes from knowing you are the apex Roscoea in our large school of species and cultivars. Thick stems hold big white flowers whose beauty fills the mind, preventing any ear-worm memory of the 'Jaws' music to intrude.
