Excellent little Asian Allium that is very nice with small heads of white flowers. Perfect for the rock garden or does great in regular garden beds as it does appreciate some moisture during the summer. Sun and decent drainage and thrives in one customers garden in Michigan. Tidy and of good disposition and certainly not a garden thug.

Really good selection by Tony Avent from a collection on Korea's Jeju Island. This has closely set somewhat rounded leaves on stems that are slightly twisted giving the effect of a spiral staircase. The degree that this is apparent is directly correlated to how misspent and experimental your youth was - some folks never see it while for Tony and us, it's like totally apparent. Very hardy and a good increaser.

Very good plant in the upper echelon of perennials and highly valued for its mid summer blooms of thickly textured intriguing yellow flowers on the terminals of the stems. These get nice broad leaves on herbaceous stems that in shape are not unlike a Hydrangea. Imposing at maturity.

Blackberry Lily. Our collection of this extremely widespread Asian species which not only has attractive deep orange flowers that are overlaid in a plethora of red spots but also the seed is curiously attractive looking for all the world like a large blackberry. This has wide application in traditional Chinese medicine and our collection is likely an escapee from the local mountain village.

A collection by Tony Avent from South Korea as Polygonatum odoratum but it has been found to be a different species and one seldom seen in gardens. Familiar arching stems to 3' with narrow white bells tipped in green hanging underneath. These flowers are scented with lemon and is most noticeable as you stroll the garden with your morning coffee. Zone 4 to zone 8b.

A simply stunning sport found in a patch of Polygonatum odoratum 'Variegatum' by plantsman and all-around good guy Roy Herold. Wide margins of cream and white on the green leaves bring some serious chutzpah to the shade garden and carry the show on long after the white flowers in late spring are but a memory.

Early Form This jumpstarts the Solomon Seal season by being among the very first to start growing in spring. Dense clumps of gracefully thin stems with an instinctual air of culture to the presentation of foliage and white flowers – not unlike the plantsman, educator, author, presenter, tour guide – ok, we’ll stop with the resume of the tasteful Cole Burrell who shared this with us.

Crug Farm collection from Chejudo Island in Korea from a slightly larger form. This was found growing in a shaded dry streambed as just 8" tall plants. The amenities of cultivation has fattened them up nicely and expect 18" or so. Glossy leaves and white bottlebrush flowers. Very cold tolerant.

Tongue Ferns are widespread in China and Japan where they can be epiphytic as well as lithophytic on rocks. Fantastic variants are being selected by the cult followers of Pyrrosia in Japan and "Tachiba Koryu' is one with evergreen blade-like leaves sporting rounded lobes along the margins. Does fantastic at Peckerwood Gardens near Houston. We have seen the species making impressive colonies on rock faces or in mossy rubble during various China forays and it is always like coming across an old friend in the forest. This is best grown in loose, well drained soil and would be happy in a rotting stump or lightly shaded scree bed.

One of the classic broad leaf evergreen small trees, this grows quite slowly and will fill the evergreen shrub niche for many years. This has small apetalous (that would be no petals so you can guess at the wow factor) chartreuse flowers in spring. Just a great Asian plant requiring decent moist soil.

A hardy and excellent selection from Japan with deeply divided and ruffled
leaves, providing a unique texture for the shade to cool sun garden. Fall color is often a rich
burgundy red. Best coloration in light shade during hottest part of the day. Panicles of pure
white flowers with red-pink centers appear in early to mid-spring.

Rare and distinctive species endemic to the island of Ulleungdo off the coast of Korea evolving from the mainland species, H. asiatica - a great example of island species evolution. The biennial leaves are very large. Small white to palest pink flowers backed by a stylin' green involucre. A less-hardy species that does great in a cool greenhouse or alpine house and good in a zone 8-9 garden with good drainage.

Our own flowering divisions from a plant bequeathed us from the former garden of plant-obsessed Marian Raitz. This Japanese selection is a fully pink double and double means the flowers last longer than the typical single fertile flowers. Ideal for cool greenhouse pot culture or mild gardens.

This choice Tongue Fern is notable for the yellowish variegation on its evergreen 12" long leaves, and is likely conspecific with the clone sold as 'Variegata', Pyrrosia are easy but require great drainage and unless you are planting it in a stumpery, rockery or slope, you will need to seriously amend with gravel, bark or assorted detritus of life. Nice divisions from our stock plants.

Chunky well-established pots of this uncommon selection. A robust taller species whose leaves sport a moonlit sliver of variegation on the upper leaf margin. This is more than enough for the variegated-obsessed despite it benefiting from the magnifier function on your phone. Well-displayed large white bells.

A fine foliage plant in the family Urticaceae and it is easy to see the family resemblance in it's cousin the nettle. But no worries, this is a venomless pussycat making a clump of tall stems with dangling panicles of tan flowers. Great texture for the moist shade garden. From China/Korea.

Gorgeous little gem out of Japan with a rich yellow center to the leaf surrounded by green with some nice feathering details. This will increase quickly but not aggressively and adds a nice splash of color in the shade garden. The white flowers go well with the whole package.

A collection by the Wynn-Jones from Crug Farm of this prized Asian culinary species from the Korean island of Jejudo, formerly Cheju island. This is a culinary ginger but it is the deep yellow flower buds that are eaten which open to lilac-pink flowers held at ground level. The deciduous corn-like leaves get about 3' tall and this is hardy to zone 6 and even zone 5. The other clone of Zingiber mioga we offer has been grown successfully in Kansas.

This deciduous and broadly distributed Asian fern boasts alternately pinnate fronds up to nearly 2' long that gives it a certain je ne sais quoi while not straying too far from the archetypical fern appearance. Pair that with its ease, tolerance for deep shade, reliability and you get a surprisingly well-rounded do-er considering its uncommon availability on the market.

Selected from Darrell Probst's collection in South Korea, this puts on a show being especially free with flaunting its floral wares. Yellow flowers in such quantity over the low grassy foliage in May that on a cool day it seems like you could warm your hands on them. A rewarding semi-evergreen small patch in part sun to bright shade.
